Innovative additive solutions from Momentive for modern plastic applications
Coupling additives | Silquest™
The Silquest™ product range comprises a broad selection of organofunctional silanes, including alkyl, vinyl, amino, epoxy, ureido, and methacrylate functional groups. These additives act as adhesion promoters, coupling agents, or crosslinking agents and are used in applications such as lightweight composites, thermoplastics, and elastomers.
Crosslinking additives | Silcat™
Silcat™ products are a specialized subgroup of organofunctional silanes based on vinyltrimethoxysilane. Combined with additives such as peroxides and tin catalysts, they provide a ready-to-use solution for the Monosil crosslinking process of polyolefins.
This process is widely used for cables, cable insulation, and PEX piping systems. Crosslinking can improve properties such as:
- Temperature resistance
- Dimensional stability
- Abrasion resistance
Siloxane masterbatches | PEarlene™
PEarlene™ masterbatches are highly concentrated siloxane additives specifically designed to improve processing and surface properties during the compounding or extrusion of selected plastics, copolymers, and elastomeric formulations.
Benefits:
- Higher extrusion rates
- Improved slip properties
- Reduced energy consumption
- Enhanced scratch and impact resistance
The masterbatches are offered with PE, PP, and PC carrier resin systems.
Silicone resins | ExPearl™
Thanks to their uniform particle size and excellent thermal stability, the spherical silicone resins of the ExPearl™ product range are ideally suited for incorporation into polymers or resins requiring antiblocking properties, particularly in BOPP and PET films.
In addition, ExPearl™ silicone resins provide light-diffusing properties, enabling matte surface finishes in applications such as acrylics and polycarbonate. In these applications, they can achieve greater efficiency compared to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) beads.
Halogen-Free flame retardant | SFR100
SFR100 is a high-viscosity silicone that acts synergistically with commonly used primary flame retardants such as magnesium hydroxide (MDH), aluminum hydroxide (ATH), and ammonium polyphosphate (APP).
In addition, SFR100 improves impact resistance – even at low temperatures – as well as processability and melt flow behavior (anti-dripping).
Coming soon: SFR100 masterbatches based on PC or PE carrier resins for use as anti-dripping agents and as an alternative to currently used additives, such as PTFE in PC compounds and ATO in wire & cable applications.
PFAS-Free processing aids | Silquest™ PA-1 & Silquest™ PA-110 MB
As regulatory requirements continue to increase – particularly due to the PPWR regulation – the demand for PFAS-free processing aids is growing, especially in film and packaging applications.
Silquest™ PA-1 and Silquest™ PA-110 MB (based on organomodified PDMS and available either as an additive or an LLDPE masterbatch) provide a high-performance solution offering the following benefits:
- Improved processability
- Reduced die build-up
- Less melt fracture
- Increased extruder throughput
Stay ahead with Momentive and optimize your plastic applications using high-performance silicone technologies. Our experts will be happy to help you identify the right additive solution for your specific requirements.
